  • Designs of spindle bearings
    Designs of spindle bearings

HFH spindle bearings are designed as single bearings (universal bearings). This means:

    • The bearing rings (inner and outer rings) have the same width
    • The projection (inner and outer rings) is therefore the same size.

  • Arrangement of spindle bearings
    Arrangement of spindle bearings

The single bearing design offers clear advantages. Single bearings can be installed in any arrangement (O, X and tandem (see illustration), spring preloaded) and combined in different sets. If required, a marking can be made on the surface of the outer ring, which can be used to determine the bearing arrangement.

  • Load capacity of spindle bearings
    Load capacity of spindle bearings

In addition to radial loads, HFH spindle bearings can also accommodate axial loads in one direction (in a tandem arrangement) or both directions (in an X or O arrangement). The contact angle of the bearing is decisive for the axial load capacity. As the contact angle increases, the axial load capacity of the spindle bearing increases. The contact angle of the spindle bearing is identified with the following suffix.

    • α = 15° (C)
    • α = 20° (D)
    • α = 25° (E)

The load direction of the outer ring can be marked on the outer surface upon customer request

  • Properties of spindle bearings

    B

    • Large ball
    • Pressure angle 15° or 25 °
    • High load capacity and rigidity
    • Suitable for medium speed levels
    • Also available as hybrid spindle bearing*

    RS

    • Large ball
    • Pressure angle 20°
    • Particularly suitable for high-speed milling and motor spindles due to high to very high speeds
    • High load capacity with combined loads

    H

    • Small ball
    • Pressure angle 15° or 25°
    • Suitable for the highest speeds thanks to friction-optimized and minimal centrifugal forces on the rolling elements
    • Particularly suitable for high-speed and grinding spindles.
    • Also available as hybrid spindle bearings*
    • Also available in stainless steel (bearing rings)

    Sealed spindle bearings

    • Protected against harmful environmental influences by contactless gap seals on both sides of the bearing.
    • The maximum operating temperature of 80 °C must not be exceeded.
    • Small ball spindle bearings also have the letter "S" (e.g.: HCS71900-E-T-P4S-UL) in the product name. The suffix 2RSD is omitted.

Spindle bearings with minimal oil lubrication (DLR)

    • Designed for extreme speeds
    • Where oil-air lubrication is required and a reliable lubricant supply must be guaranteed.
    • The spindle housing is sealed against lubricant leakage by O-rings on the outer ring.

    * Hybrid spindle bearings have bearing rings made of steel or stainless steel which roll over ceramic balls (silicon nitride Si3N4). Hybrid spindle bearings achieve higher speeds with less friction and heat generation than conventional spindle bearings and therefore have a longer service life.
