General information about spherical plain bearings
Maintenance-free radial spherical plain bearings
Maintenance-free radial spherical plain bearings have special sliding layers and are characterized by low friction. They are used in applications with high requirements in terms of service life in maintenance-free operation or in cases of insufficient or no lubrication, as the use of steel/steel bearings is not advisable or impossible in such cases. Above all, however, they are used where bearings are subjected to high, unidirectional forces. Maintenance-free bearings can only be used to a limited extent for bidirectional loads. In addition to roller bearing steel, these bearings are also available in stainless steel, which is corrosion-resistant in oxidizing environments. Maintenance-free radial spherical plain bearings are available in the following sliding pairings:
- Hard chrome/PTFE sliding pair
- Sliding pair steel/PTFE fabric
Maintenance requiring radial spherical plain bearings
Radial spherical plain bearings requiring maintenance are available in steel/steel and steel/bronze sliding pairings. These sliding pairings require regular relubrication. Due to its high wear resistance, the steel/steel sliding pairing is particularly suitable for high loads with changing load directions, shock loads, or high static loads. Bearings with a cylindrically widened inner ring on both sides are designed for bearings with spacer sleeves on both sides, or specifically for the mounting of hydraulic cylinders. Radial spherical plain bearings requiring maintenance are available in the GE..DO, GE..FO, and GE..PB versions.

Information on sliding pairings
Sliding pairing: Steel/PTFE composite material
These bearings are made from high-quality bearing steel, hardened and ground. The sliding surface of the inner ring is hard-chromed. The sliding surface of the outer ring consists of pressed-in PTFE composite material inserts.
Sliding pairing: Hard chrome/PTFE fabric
These bearings are made from high-quality bearing steel, hardened and ground. The sliding surface of the inner ring is hard-chromed. The sliding surface of the outer ring consists of bonded PTFE fabric inserts.
Sliding pairing: Stainless steel/PTFE fabric
These bearings are manufactured from high-quality hardenable stainless steel, hardened, and ground. The sliding surface of the outer ring consists of bonded PTFE fabric inserts. The inner ring is spring-fitted into the outer ring in all bearings. This is achieved by splitting the outer ring at a predetermined breaking point. Therefore, these bearings are self-retaining.

Information about the version with seals.
Our spherical plain bearing are also available in a double-sealed design (for maintenance-required radial joints only in steel/steel sliding pairs). These bearings are marked with the suffix 2RS. The sealing washers are made of polyester elastomer and prevent coarse contaminants from entering. Upon request, it is also possible to use other sealing materials or equip the bearings with special seals.

Note on operating temperatures
The operating temperature of hinge/socket bearings is determined by the sliding pair. For sealed bearings, the operating temperature is additionally limited by the operating temperature of the sealing material. (The temperature range influenced by the seal can also be easily altered by using a different sealing material.) The following temperature ranges are possible for the sliding pair:
Sliding pair Operating temperature Steel / Steel -60 °C to +150 °C Steel / Steel (sealed) -30 °C to +130 °C Steel / Bronze -60 °C to +150 °C Hard chrome/PTFE fabric -30 °C to +130 °C Hard chrome/PTFE composite material -50 °C to +150 °C Stainless steel/Composite -30 °C to +130 °C

Dimensional standards
Standard, our spherical plain bearings and rod ends conform to DIN ISO 12240. Deviations from the standard are manufactured on request.
